If you have ever experienced the restructuring of an internal Business Analysis organization, then you know the struggle of creating a cohesive team with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. If you have ever experienced the need to grow your Business Analysis organization, but there is a shortage of applying talent, then you understand the challenges that derive from developing that talent within the organization (or even instilling lessons into new talent). If you have also had to lead this new team through a rapidly changing business landscape, then you may relate to what our business has undergone. Our business is constantly experiencing transformation due to the complexity of the industry and our own changing business models. With these challenges, and the consistent changes that occur in the health insurance industry, we realized that we needed a formal approach to continuously educate and prepare our Business Analysts to manage these high-level impacts to our business. Every business needs to create an environment that nurtures the skillset for a successful Business Analyst. We focus on hiring those who hold valuable soft skills (communication, problem-solving, and behavioral) and building on those skills. To do so, we have created programs and playbooks to provide guidance through numerous internal and external influences. These also promote increased Business Analyst organizational acumen, industry knowledge, and an improvement of responsiveness to business needs. As a result, we see enhanced collaboration with stakeholders, and increased quality and value to our members.
Karen holds 35+ years’ experience in various aspects of the health insurance industry, including practice management, software development, new product introduction, and business case development. Karen has provided Business Analysis leadership on strategic initiatives that have helped organizations plan for impacts from major mandates such as Y2K, HIPAA, and ACA. As a Principal Enterprise Business Analyst at Blue Cross NC, Karen utilizes her real-world experience to mentor the next generation of business analysts. She has a BSBA from ECU and an MBA from Meredith College.
Rhiannon is a certified Project Management Professional with a Six Sigma Green Belt specializing in Process and Continuous Improvement initiatives. Rhiannon enjoys the challenges of working to align policies and procedures with corporate strategy and vision, as well as facilitating and managing cross-functional projects with diverse resources. Rhiannon has provided process improvement leadership on strategic initiatives that have helped organizations with lean process design, continuous improvement, change management, and sustainability. As a Business Process Consultant at Blue Cross NC, Rhiannon utilizes her certifications and past industry experience to support and drive enterprise business solutions. She has a BS from State University of New York, College at Oneonta.
